Local 1475 Phone Bank - Election Action Alert

Dear sisters and brothers,
This Labor Day Weekend marks the start of the 2010 election season. Early childhood educators, like other educators, know that their jobs and the children they serve are very closely affected by what happens in Sacramento and in Washington, D.C. That’s why we are taking action to make our voices heard.
We are fighting for a budget that puts education before prisons, and working people before billionaires. We are fighting for our livelihoods, and for the children who need our services.
The California Federation of Teachers is making a major effort to fight for California’s future, and The Early Childhood Federation, Local 1475 will be helping to lead the way. We will be staffing a phone bank this election season with our brothers and sisters at the Sheet Metal Workers Local Union 170. Our goal is to contact union members in support of initiatives and candidates that will stand for education and working people.
The phone bank kickoff will be this THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 9 AT 4:30 P.M. AT THE SHEET METAL WORKERS UNION LOCAL 170, 9101 E. WHITTIER BLVD, PICO RIVERA, CA. 90660. After that, volunteers will be taking shifts Monday through Wednesday each week until the election. If all of us volunteer, we can make a real impact on California.
This election could not be more important for the future of California. The opponents of public education and working families will spend hundreds of millions of dollars trying to buy our votes. We must fight back, educate each other, be strategic and be organized to win. The future of education in California depends on it.
If you’re ready to come out Thursday, and stand up for the future of California, let me know by responding to this e-mail, or call me (Ivan) at (213) 400 8757.

In Solidarity,
Ivan Brickman
